OOIDA v. Caliber settled

On Aug. 29, 1997, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) and member Shawn Lewis filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio against Caliber Systems, Inc. and Caliber Logistics, Inc. (collectively "Caliber"). OOIDA and Lewis alleged that Caliber's leasing practices violated motor carrier leasing regulations, in particular 49 C.F.R. section 376.12, as well as Ohio common law.

Although styled as a class action, no class was ever certified in this case. Following a period of information gathering and negotiation by all parties, that lawsuit was settled late Oct.1998, on terms agreeable to all parties and without admission of liability by any party.
