Old sleeper rules worked just fine

My wife, Sheila, and I drove five on five for six years. We slept five on/five off when we took a break. That pattern seemed to work just fine for us. When we had an occasional “I’m tired” issue, we could just pull over and sleep a couple hours without it affecting our available hours. I’m still not sure what was wrong with the rules we had before they started messing with them.

Hurry, hurry, hurry

I am stuck over the weekend away from home for the first time in a long time. I am just sitting here watching trucks coming in and out of the truck stop. Watching the way these drivers are driving is so ridiculously unsafe and the ones that to me are driving unsafe are the ones with the electronic logs.

Before making changes regarding EOBRs, I wish that the people at FMCSA would just come in and sit for a while in a truck stop parking lot and see for themselves what these devices are making drivers do to try and save time … flying in and out of the truck stop, driving behind drivers attempting to back into parking spaces.

I’m walkin’ yes indeed

On behalf of our group, I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you and all the other fine folks at OOIDA for your support and participation in our recent Health Awareness Walk 2012 at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The events that our group organizes and conducts would not be possible without the support before, during and after the events themselves.
