David McClurg of Baker City, OR, never gets too lonely on the road. He always has a canine companion Brownie, a 9-year-old Labrador-Chesapeake mix, to keep him company. However, Brownie isnt the only dog in McClurgs life.
I love my bulldog, he says about his 1993 Mack CL613. He has logged 872,000 miles on the truck hauling empty trailers mostly on the East Coast and down south for Marcus Trailer Express.
McClurg relies on a Mack P7-400 engine with an Eaton deep reduction 15-speed transmission to run his truck. He uses Mobil Delvac 1300 because it helps his engine get better oil pressure. He doesnt do oil analysis with every oil change because he runs light and doesnt work the engine that hard.
McClurg does his PMs every 20,000 miles, not over or under. He gets them done at Petro, TA, QuikLube, USA Lube or wherever I am at 20,000 miles. He does some of his own maintenance belts, lights and greasing it every week.
McClurg has been trucking off and on for 20 years.
