NATIONAL CALL-TO-ACTION - Highway Bill Update
July 26, 2005

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight,  but the size of the fight in the dog"
 - Mark Twain

Top-level conferees and their staff met until late last night. Negotiations on the final version of the highway bill were stalled by disagreements over job protection measures for transit workers.

The conferees ended last night’s meeting before debating the fuel surcharge legislation and a few other unresolved provisions.

Congressional staff tell us that a decision on the fuel surcharge provision will be made today, probably before noon. They are also confident that the final version of the highway bill will be completed today.

If your lawmaker is a member of the highway bill conference committee, please call him or her today! Let committee members know that truckers from your state and across the country are counting on them to support the fuel surcharge legislation. Tell them that hardworking Americans are counting on them to include the fuel surcharge legislation in the final version of the highway bill.

You can reach any lawmaker via the Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Association at 1-800-444-5791.

Together we have already made Capitol Hill take notice. Together we can beat the big trucking corporations, big brokers and big shippers. Together we can get the job done for the real truckers of America.
